Join us for a full-day seminar dedicated to equipping professionals with the tools and confidence to identify, report, and respond to vulnerable adult abuse, neglect, and exploitation. This in-person event brings together frontline healthcare workers, social workers, APS staff, and others committed to protecting our most vulnerable populations.

Dementia in Individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities

Kate Pierce, LMSW, Program Director, Alzheimer's Association - Michigan Chapter

  1. Discuss dementia in people with I/DD.
  2. Identify two dementia screening tools to use with individuals with I/DD.
  3. Discuss the components of comprehensive dementia diagnosis.  
  4. Describe current dementia medications and current state of research on their use in people with I/DD.

Prosecution Point of View of Vulnerable Adult Offenses

Scott Ehlfeldt, JD, BA, Elder Justice Project Director, Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan

  1. Identify the various ways a person qualifies as a vulnerable adult in Michigan under MCL 750.145m. 
  2. Discuss the various charging area in Michigan.  
  3.  Determine what the police are looking for.
  4. Determine the effect of power of attorney.
  5. Identify red flags to look out for and how to offer protection.

Michigan HomeCare & Hospice Association is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

This session has been approved for 3.75 hours of Continuing Education (CE).

Applied for to the Michigan SW CE Collaborative.


Criteria for awarding contact hours:

Attendees must sign in at the beginning of each session, sign out at the conclusion of each session and complete an evaluation form for each session in order to be eligible for CEs.
