It is important to keep in mind that as volunteer managers, we cannot allow harm to come to patients/families, staff, fellow volunteers, or the organization. When we keep a volunteer who is potentially problematic, we may be placing others at risk, and while it is not easy to terminate anyone, especially a volunteer, sometimes it is necessary. It is always preferred to “coach in” by focusing our guidance on the development of behaviors that are a better fit with our organization’s mission. In this webinar we will discuss some of the reasons it can be difficult to confront volunteers on their behaviors and look at ways to overcome or get around those barriers. We will then spend most of our time working on the skills necessary to coach, guide, redirect, and terminate when that becomes necessary.
